Sh*t My Dad Says
| |
|
After being dumped by his longtime girlfriend, twenty-eight-year-old Justin Halpern found himself living at home with his seventy-three-year-old dad. Sam Halpern, who is "like Socrates, but angrier, and with worse hair," has never minced words, and when Justin moved back home, he began to record all the ridiculous things his dad said to him: "That woman was sexy. . . . Out of your league? Son, let women figure out why they won't screw you. Don't do it for them." "Do people your age know how to comb their hair? It looks like two squirrels crawled on their heads ...

The Glass Castle: A Memoir
| |
| |
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and above all, how to embrace life fearlessly. And I guess I should stop right there: anyone who saw 'Eat, Love, Pray' as 'self-indulgent' or 'crap on every level', keep moving. There's really nothing for you here.
So this book is about the author approaching her second marriage, and while she does, while she's mired in all the post-9/11 complications of marrying a 'foreigner', she provides some pretty fascinating insight into the history of marriage, how it's perceived in various parts of the world, while throwing ...

Five stars?! WTF people? I can't even tell you how dull and offensive this book is. I don't mind edgy literature, but this is just one boring pile of garbage. There is nothing smart or creative in this book. It's filled with generic story lines and terrible writing. I did not relate to the character in this book nor did I like her. She comes across with no awareness of self. All I can say is dumbdumb!
