Robert Dreyfuss
on the shift in U.S. war and propaganda effort from Iraq to Afghanistan
Robert Dreyfuss
, contributing editor at
TheNation
and author of
Devil’s Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam
, spoke with Scott Horten on
Antiwar radio
last week about the shift in U.S. war and propaganda effort from Iraq to Afghanistan. "Iraq is now a place where we can hope we can get out without it blowing up in our faces," said Dreyfuss. We would like Iraq to be part of the pro-American block over there, but that is looking increasingly unlikely. Prime Minister al-Maliki is a potential dictator in the making with lots of ties to Iran and who isn't going to be necessarily amenable to what the United States wants although he will probably be happy to continually take our aid and support as long as we are willing to supply his armed forces and police with equipment and training and money. The idea that Iraq is going to become a base for American presence in Mideast is pretty laughable at this point. See
